Health and safety is extremely important in all industries but special care should always be taken where materials handling is concerned.
From product storage to goods transportation, the daily operations of warehouses, distribution centres and manufacturing plants are rife with potentially life-threatening hazards. The owner or operator of the facility has a legal duty of care to minimise risks and ensure that workers are kept as safe as possible while carrying out their duties.
At RAXEL, we’re committed to improving health and safety standards for warehouses by providing appropriate storage solutions and supporting services that comply with stringent industry standards.
SEMA-accredited installers and inspectors
As a member of the storage industry’s most widely respected regulatory bodies, RAXEL is a name you can trust. Our engineers have been trained in all relevant health and safety guidelines to ensure that every design, installation or inspection is carried out in line with the most recent legislation.
We’re proud members of the Storage Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (SEMA). SEMA aims to educate the industry on racking safety and establish recognised safety and technical standards for storage equipment. To achieve accreditation, engineers and inspectors must pass an intensive three-day training course, written examination and practical assessment, as well as committing to a programme of ongoing CPD (Continuous professional development) to maintain the qualification.
RAXEL’s installation engineers are also fully trained and registered with the Storage Equipment Installer Registration Scheme (SEIRS), working to a strict code of practice and backed by extensive training courses. SEIRS engineers carry an ID card to verify their registration and give customers the peace of mind that their installation will be carried out to the highest industry standards.
Safe, compliant pallet racking installations
RAXEL’s experienced engineers are able to undertake CAD design and space planning to ensure that the pallet racking solutions we provide conform to all health and safety requirements for your industry.
Whether you need us to create a bespoke system from scratch or modify, repair or reconfigure your existing storage, we carry out all work in line with manufacturer recommendations, as well as SEMA and FEM standards. Following installation, our engineers will carry out load testing and ensure that appropriate load notices are fitted.
We are also able to install additional safety solutions, including pallet gates, guardrails, and fire-rated partitioning as required to ensure that your storage system is fit for purpose.
Annual pallet racking inspections
Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 98, warehouses are legally required to have their pallet racking surveyed once a year by a competent person. This annual inspection should assess whether the equipment has been installed correctly, complies with legal requirements, and is in a safe condition to be used.
No matter how sturdy the equipment, it will succumb to wear and tear over time, so it’s important to maintain a regular inspection schedule. Minor damage can cause structural weaknesses that could lead to collapse or cause personal injury if left unchecked. Even if you perform daily inspections yourself, this alone isn’t enough to cover your business in the event of an incident and could leave you liable for legal action.
RAXEL’s inspection engineers are approved by SEMA, the professional body for the storage industry. This means that they perform pallet racking condition assessments, reports and recommendations in line with SEMA’s strict quality standards for manufacturing, installation and inspection.
